SHINDOYAMAYA: a traditional Japanese ryokan and restaurant in Omiya, Saitama
Omiya has continued to develop as the largest commercial city in the prefecture, having served as an inn town on the Nakasendo Highway since long ago, as a railway town in modern times, and now playing a central role in Saitama City.
SHINDOYAMAYA, though it is in the heart of that same Saitama City that has flourished so remarkably, stands at the corner of Omiya Park, where a vestige of the serene Musashino remains. The Minuma River flows swiftly beside the inn, reflecting on its surface the leaves and branches of great Japanese elms; the spacious lawns of Omiya Third Park spread out close at hand.
The history of this inn began in 1888, simultaneous with the opening of a new road that connected Omiya with Iwatsuki. It was a mountain retreat (“yamaya”) on the Iwatsuki new road (“shindo”). This is how the SHINDOYAMAYA got its name.
SHINDOYAMAYA offers the hospitality of traditional kaiseki cuisine, accentuated with seasonal flavors and colors, in traditional tatami mat banquet halls. We hope that you’ll partake deeply of the relaxation and flavors we offer as a traditional restaurant and inn.
At our restaurant, we take traditional techniques to new heights and aim for a form of Japanese cuisine that regularly seeks new ideas.

In our “Season (Toki)” kaiseki course, we pursue a form of Japanese cuisine that is grounded in traditional techniques while still regularly taking new approaches. The menu, which changes each month and is diligently crafted by our head chef, always promises a fresh surprise. Our understated Sukiya style tatami rooms adjacent to Omiya Park, and our breakfasts and dinners of Japanese cuisine, overflowing with the seasonality distinctive of ryokan inns and restaurants, will soothe any physical or mental fatigue from your travels. Travelers to Omiya can also enjoy local attractions such as the Railway Museum, the Omiya Bonsai Art Museum, and the Saitama Super Arena.
Our inn has been designated by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism as a certified international tourist hotel. This qualification is given only to lodging facilities that have fulfilled such criteria as enhanced facilities, reasonable room rates, periodic inspections, thorough disaster prevention equipment, and service suited to international guests. Historically Omiya was a lodging town along the
Nakasendo Way. More recently it has been known as a railroad town. Now Omiya
is experiencing a rebirth as the center of Saitama City. Currently the largest
commercial city in the prefecture, Omiya continues to develop and expand. We
